an ornate globe made with many layers of exotic woods spins on its axis. through the stained glass window diffuse light casts russet hews across the study. looking out over the walled garden to an orchard, great swollen purple and black fruits hang malevolently from mangled moss-covered trees. a gentle wind pushes the tangled branches and as they creak and moan the fruits thud lazily to the ground, gathering in mouldering clusters on the dewy grass.

black drop effects is named after the black drop effect, the dark bridge which appears to join two almost-touching bodies against bright light: famously, venus becoming teardropshaped on its transit across the sun, just before it moves into the darkness of space. all four tracks on this ep from italian-born producer palese are named after scientific aspects of the planet venus, confirming that industrial can most certainly still be intriguing. the ep surprises you with twists and turns, defying any stereotypical assumption of techno being all uniform monotony.

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.

to accompany the release of especial s compilation mix cd, -eleccio- - offering of a snapshot of the first 9 eps on the label - a limited edition sampler ep is being released featuring 4 unreleased remixes from the label s roster to date. ever since the first white labels appeared at the end of summer 2013, emotional especial has had a busy release schedule, putting out music that are a slightly warped take on club music. mixing the influences of dub, electro, disco, proto-house, house and techno, a feeling, a sound, a vibe has appeared without any preordained plan. with the release of ees10cd - a dj meets studio compilation mix created by label mainstay and handyman, jamie paton - to mark the end of first series of the label, it was decided to included a couple of specal unreleased remixes to add a bit of new with the old in the mix. to that end this limited edition vinyl sampler was created to include the two remixes, plus the inclusion of another two gems that simply needed to see the light of day. first is the alternative -member- remix of inhalt by black merlin - a strings meets leather bar club-dub-out that takes things deeper and darker than before. this is followed by jamie delivering his own take of khidja s massive mustafa, with a warped, swamped out dub. next is another mix from cage & aviary of their pals, blancemange. brooding low-slung rerub dub anyone? finally there is a very special remix by khidja of the ganges orchestra. reissued on emotional rescue in 2013, this special remix takes the vocal mantra of the original and creates a balearic-raga tale that perfectly rounds off especial to date.

last year tornado wallace touched down at the esp institute with his thinking allowed ep, a slab of wax that proved pivotal in his musical aesthetic, beautifully complimenting our catalogue. he ups the ante further with circadia, his second 3-track ep that riffs on esp themes whilst sophisticatedly amplifying their character. the title track lays trance-like arpeggiated vocals over thunderous tropical toms, opening up into an epic group chant. time of nectar coasts along, blanketing us with soft pads and soothing pan pipes before jonny nashs palm-muted stratocaster makes its cameo. the essential house jam on the b-side, soft light, will no doubt pump its way through dance floors this summer, dont sleep!

on *secret weapons* lay-far presents three tracks that celebrate an era of when disco, jazz, afro and rare groove ruled the dance floors. first up is *quality hours* which to us is the perfect nugget for the early afternoon, mid-day session or late night summer parties. on the flip is *saaba dub*, the sort of light and loose disco-soul groove influenced by dub and last but not least *prime climate* ends things in a slightly more rare groove-ish way.

tekseven records. hailing from belfast n.ireland. the opening track orbit by tekseven is a trip into an off beat world of heavily laden beats, baselines, synths and sci-fi, evolving vocal lines seemingly sampled with precision from an old 50s t.v set somehow reminiscent of robert hood. the remix from uk artist binny continues along the sci-fi theme with a beautifully crafted ambient intro which turns into a thumping good retro feeling techno track! on the b-side teksevens atlas introduces us to some straight up no holds barred high quality light and shade techno that will loosen any dance floors rivets.last but not least is an excellent remix by mattias fridell verging more on the dub side of things with the deepest spacious bass that is a hallmark of his fine techno creations . all in all, a great first release from a brand new vinyl label. expect great things in the future.
